Our Savior Lutheran Church began in 1956 when Dr. Strop, a retired missionary, came to serve the few Lutherans in & around Gatlinburg. Four families called themselves First Lutheran Church, worshipping each Sunday in a rented home. In 1960, The Rev. Steve Schultz came as a mission-developer. The church-at-large felt that there should be a Lutheran presence in Gatlinburg, with its 10 million visitors each year, even if the congregation never became self-supporting. Therefore, Our Savior Lutheran Church officially became a congregation December 10, 1961. Over the years, Stephen Schultz, Clarence Derrick Jr., Richard Dahlke, Brian Jones, and Arne Walker have served the congregation.
Worship is the center of activity at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Divine Worship is led by Pastor Ed Wolff and held at 10:30 a.m. all Sundays with an 8:00 a.m. service on Sundays from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Holy Communion is the 1st Sunday of each month and also at the 8:00 a.m. service held in the summer. |
