Dear Friends,
We want to share these two pictures of the students at the Lutheran Theological Seminary (LTS) here in Hong Kong. "Mid-Autumn Festival" was earlier this week. In this China area of the world, it is the harvest festival when families gather similar to Thanksgiving in the USA. This holiday is always on the full moon of one of the fall lunar calender months, so gathering with paper lanterns to gaze at the full moon is a part of the tradition. LTS had a special dinner, followed by a walk to the cross near LTS that overlooks the Sha Tin Valley. One of the photos shows the students singing around the cross with their lanterns. In the background are the apartment buildings of the hundreds of thousands of people who live in this valley--- including our family! Fifty years ago, this Sha Tin Valley was an inlet of the ocean with rice paddies surrounding it. In fact, "Sha Tin" means "sandy fields." Crowded conditions have changed that!
LTS has almost 300 students mostly from Hong Kong, but some special students from China and students from other countries in Southeast Asia including Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Ted is grateful for the opportunity to be among the faculty who guide these students on their way as they prepare to serve churches in various leadership roles.
We thank you for your continuing support. Please know that we also keep your congregations in our prayers.
Sincerely, Janey and Ted Zimmerman
